Where the money comes from, and where it goes.
We ask parents for money, so we owe you a straight answer about it. Here’s how this is structured, funded, and overseen — and what your ten dollars actually buys.
How we’re structured.
A sponsored project
NYUC is a sponsored project of the Fund for the City of New York, a 501(c)(3) public charity. FCNY holds the charitable status, receives the funds, issues the receipts, and provides fiscal and legal oversight.
What that means for your gift
Donations and dues are tax-deductible, and your receipt comes from the Fund for the City of New York rather than from us. Where the money ends up doesn’t change.
Parent-funded on purpose
Dues and individual donations are the core of the budget, on purpose. A group funded by the people it represents can pick fights a grant-funded one can’t.
Legal and tax details
New Yorkers United for Child Care is a sponsored project of the Fund for the City of New York, a 501(c)(3) public charity. EIN 13-2612524.
What it pays for.
- Child care at every in-person meeting — the line item that makes it possible for parents to be there at all.
- Organizers who help members run drives and neighborhood teams.
- The physical stuff: signs, tables, printing, buses to Albany on budget days.
- Research and rapid response, so we can put a real number in front of a legislator the same day.
